Two sleeps and a very tall philanthropist

December 18 2014

Hugless Douglas is en route to a sleepover at the start of Hugless Douglas and the Big Sleep. David Melling's illustrations are full of imagination and have lots of movement in them. This is a simple story with a funny culmination. Most of the humour is in the pictures, the words are almost unnecessary there is so much detail in the pictures. We've not read too many David Melling books but there have been enough to see that he has his won world beyond Hugless Douglas, I look forward to exploring more.

After a few days off from Julia Donaldson books, we return with one of my favourites,  The Smartest Giant in Town. This has had a few low reviews, I'm not entirely sure why. It's a nice story, the tale of a philanthropic giant, Linus likes to finish a lot of the lines. There's also a lot of added jokes in Axel Scheffler's illustrations, I'd rate these as amongst his funniest.

Linus' third favourite programme is probably Raa Raa The Noisy Little Lion (Bing and Sarah & Duck are the first two) or maybe Alphablocks (which is awesome!).
Raa Raa the Noisy Lion: A Nap Time Story is very much a TV tie-in book. It follows the story of an episode written by Denise Cassar. It is a neat little story and well packaged for the book. It's also a great last book before bedtime, it starts off with noisy Raa Raa shouting his way about town. As the book goes on, Raa Raa gathers some quiet noises which eventually get everyone to sleep. Even Linus was whispering when we finished"
